Floral Designer Checklist 

Before you hire a floral designer, it is wise to have selected your gown, the mothers' and bridesmaids' dresses and the color theme of your wedding. Fabric swatches are a great help.

Consider the style and mood of your wedding, the season or environment, your budget and what kind of flowers you prefer. The floral designer will be able to recommend floral combinations and artistic treatments to compliment your wedding.

Remember to ask for an itemized bill in advance.

Other floral pieces that you may need include displays for the alter, centerpieces for the reception tables, sprays for candelabra, corsages for those who assist with various reception duties and floral tokens for special guests.

A nice floral arrangement for the unity candle table will add a special touch. If you plan to have the rose ceremony be a part of your wedding, remember to order two red rose buds.

Wedding protocol is important too. Your floral designer will have the answers and will listen to your needs to ensure that you'll get a great value for your money and have the perfect floral accents to enhance your special day. Also inquire about the preservation of your corsage.

Four to six months is not to early to begin shopping for a floral designer.

• Will you have fresh flowers, silk or dried flowers?
• Sign agreement and pay deposit.
• Provide color swatches, pictures of your gown, attendants' dresses and mothers' dresses to match colors.
• Ask about floral or decorating restrictions at the ceremony and reception sites.

• Give the floral designer the names, addresses and times for delivery of floral bouquets, boutonnieres and arrangements
• Ask for referral to a floral preservationist
• Pay the balance
